Strutts is at the heart of the community

The deed of covenant laid down by George Herbert Strutt gifted the building to the town, but more importantly, for the benefit of the community of Belper. The legacy continues today and it remains a well-loved, historic asset to the town with lots of connections to generations of families still in the local area.

This grand grade 11 listed building and lovely established grounds provide great facilities. There are many interesting, original features throughout, reflecting the life the building has enjoyed since it opened in 1909. Restoration, repair and maintenance is a continual process and whilst the building proudly bears witness to the years of service, an ongoing programme of refurbishment and redecoration sympathetic to, and in accordance with, its listed heritage is in place.

Strutts provides an accessible place for community groups to meet, for social activities to take place and there’s still an opportunity to learn a thing or two here!  Many of our user groups are involved in hobbies and interests including sports, crafts, languages, the Arts and creative writing, to name just a few. There really is something for everyone here.

We are often used as a base for classes, meetings and support sessions by the NHS, local authorities and other agencies and regularly host a variety of local groups involved in health and well-being, together with support, advice and social groups for all ages. Our wonderful library is also the home of the Derbyshire Archaeological Society records and we have our own ongoing historic research programme too.

The facilities can also be hired out for live events and private functions – we’ve had weddings, birthdays and reunions as well as plays, concerts, fairs and festivals. Having a fully serviceable kitchen on site, we are able to offer catering and bar provision as optional facilities.

Room hire rates fall into three carefully considered categories to cater for corporate requirements, small organisations or sole traders and charitable or private hirers. The cost bands reflect the level of community support we are able to offer.
If you are looking for somewhere local to host your community event or activity, we’d love to welcome you the Strutts family.
